Progress over Perfection: A Gentle Reminder for Your Home and Heart

Progress over Perfection: A Gentle Reminder for Your Home and Heart

Hi friend,

If you caught my recent YouTube Short, you saw a new little piece of art that is very close to my heart - my Progress over Perfection wall art.

I made it as a digital download because I needed to see those words every day. Maybe you do, too?

Let's talk about what that phrase really means in a cozy, everyday-life kind of way.

What Does "Progress over Perfection" Actually Mean?

For a long time, I thought if I couldn't do something perfectly, I shouldn't do it at all. The planner had to be filled out perfectly. The letter had to have perfect handwriting. The house had to look perfect before anyone came over.

You know what that gets you? A lot of waiting. And a lot of unfinished things.

Progress over Perfection is simply this: It's better to take a small, imperfect step forward than to stay stuck waiting for the perfect moment.

It doesn't mean we don't care about doing good work. We do! At Copper G Creations, I put my heart into every lily and every floral border. It just means we let "done and heartfelt" be good enough.

A 10-minute tidy is progress.
Sending the card with a crossed-out word is progress.
Planning just today instead of the perfect whole week is progress.

Why Letting Go of Perfect Can Feel So Much Lighter

I am not a mental health specialist, and this isn't professional advice - it's just what I've learned in my own cozy corner of the world.

When we chase perfection, we carry extra pressure around with us. That little voice that says, "Not good enough yet." It's exhausting.

When I started choosing progress instead, I noticed a few gentle shifts for myself:

1. I actually finish things. That half-written note gets mailed. That planner page gets used, doodles and all.

2. I enjoy creating again. There is so much more joy in making something with love than worrying if it's flawless.

3. My home feels calmer. When I stopped needing every corner to be picture-perfect, I could actually relax in it.

It's not about lowering standards. It's about being kind to ourselves while we keep moving forward.

3 Tiny Ways to Practice Progress over Perfection This Week

If this idea speaks to you, here are some small ways I'm practicing it right now:

1. The One-Sentence Start. Don't wait to write the perfect journal entry. Just write one honest sentence in your planner. "Today felt busy, but good." That's progress.

2. The 80% Rule. If something is 80% there and comes from a good place - send the card, hang the art a little crooked and fix it later, post the photo. Let done be enough for today.

3. A Visible Reminder. This is why I created the wall art. Put the words where you will see them - above your desk, on your fridge, inside your planner cover. When perfection pressure creeps in, you have a soft nudge back to progress.

That printable comes in several colorways so you can choose what feels cozy to you - from soft blush to calm sage. It's an instant download so you can print it today and give yourself that reminder.

A Little Note From Me to You

If you have been holding off on starting something because you want it to be perfect, consider this your gentle permission slip to start imperfectly.

Your progress matters. Every little step counts.

Thank you for being here in this cozy community and for embracing this message with me.

With love and imperfect progress,
